2 Things You Should Know About Cane Corso Puppies Before Adopting One

Connor Hawkins

Bred from a long line dating back to their ancestors who served as Roman war dogs, Cane Corso mastiffs are strong, muscular, and healthy canines. While they are very large in size, they have a loving disposition and can be an ideal family dog, which may have prompted you to consider adopting one.

However, before you do decide to adopt one of these mastiff puppies, you need to know how to take care of them. Besides needing a lot of space because of their massive size, there are a couple of other things that you need to know.

1. Puppies Require High Levels of Physical Activity and Mental Stimulation

The first thing that you should know about the Cane Corso dog breed is that they are highly active and extremely intelligent. Especially when they are puppies, they need access to more physical activity than ones from other dog breeds. Ideally, you should have a large yard or the ability to take them to a dog park so that they can run and play.

Even when they are inside, they need constant mental stimulation because of their high intelligence levels. If they become bored, they may become destructive or even become stressed. When you are at home or at work, give them a large variety of toys, puzzles, and other activities to keep them occupied.

2. Cane Corso Dogs Absolutely Love to Eat Whenever and Whatever They Can

The second thing you need to consider before adopting a Cane Corso is that they absolutely love to eat. Even if they have already eaten a large meal, they will continue to eat anything that is in front of them and will need to monitor their food intake.

However, their love of food is not necessarily a bad thing, especially when it comes to training them. Because they are motivated by food, using it responsibly when they are younger makes training them easy.

While the breed is known for being lovable and loyal, the puppies and adult dogs will need extra exercise and loads of mentally stimulating activities to maintain their optimal health and keep them from becoming bored. You also have to watch how much food you give them since they will eat even when they are not hungry.

Speak with a veterinarian or a breeder who offers Cane Corso puppies for sale if you would like to know more about this large dog breed before adopting one of these mastiffs for your household.
